Greene County is located in West Central Illinois. It is named for Nathanael Greene, general in the American Civil War.
The seat is Carrollton, while the largest city is White Hall. The county is bordered by the Illinois River
Greene County borders Scott, Morgan, Macoupin, Jersey and Pike Counties.
Main highways through the county include US-67, IL-100 and IL-108.
